about

Remastered from the 1989 cassette. From my Facebook page:
I have uploaded the LAST cassette I currently have access to from my cassette era. But this one is special.
In 1989, after I released "Superstitious", I had a few fans. One of those fans got me "THE INTERVIEW". By that I mean I finally had my chance to interview with someone truly connected and looking for talent. She was now seeking and shopping talent to the majors, but just prior to that (as I understand it), she was a senior VP at Atlantic, and was responsible for bringing in Inxs, as well as many other groups.
She and the rest of her agency listened to my material, and I was told in no uncertain terms, that while they WERE interested in a few of my songs, they WEREN'T interested me as an artist. Only a writer. At first, it was no big thing...but later I was pretty torn up about it. I was 29 years old with a wife and 2 kids, and I had gotten to the point where things were either going to happen or they weren't. And they didn't. So by the time I turned 30, I had completely given up on music. I was done.
But in that transition period, between total abandonment and disillusion, I decided to try my hand at instrumental music. Marc Isham was an influence on me at that point for sure, so I tried my hand at something more in his vein. I never released that project; in fact, until I rediscovered the cassette I had forgotten I had done it. But after listening to it recently, I think it might be the best thing I've done from that era. Probably, and mainly, because it DIDN'T have my crappy vocals on it. ;)
